Farmers in Kampot Province Happy to Harvest 53 Tons of New Rice Varieties and Sell More Than Market

Rice is the first crop of more than 40% of farmers in Cambodia to grow crops in the past. Some areas in the Kingdom of Cambodia are nearing harvest and others are harvesting. In fact, 41 families in Kampot province have completed the harvest season in Anlong Pring landscape protection area, Kampong Trach district. Obtaining a new rice variety from the Angkor production community called Mith Kriel rice variety, yielding about 53 tons and selling at a price 4% higher than the market.

On December 16, BirdLife said that about 41 families in Kampong Trach district, Kampot province, and Anlong Pring landscape protection area had finished harvesting their rice, harvesting 53 tonnes. About 62% of the yield is decided by most farmers for consumption and about 38 for sale. Under the auspices of the project, the price is 4% higher than the market. Price of rice in 2020: Phkar Romduol rice at 1,123 Riel, Sen Srok rice at 1,059 Riel, ER / OEM rice at 990 Riel, according to the (wet) rice price data for 2020 of the Cambodian Rice Federation.

It should also be noted that Mit Kriel rice is a bird-friendly product. At the same time, cultivation must adhere to the 12 conditions and apply natural farming methods by minimizing the use of chemicals and chemical fertilizers to reduce the impact on human health, ecosystems and biodiversity, especially cranes. In particular, the farmers in the area were very kind and left about 5% of the rice in the fields to be fed to the cranes.
